Founding and Leadership

Ebo, Hassan Baba & Co. was founded and is managed by Uju Aisha Hassan Baba, OON. Admitted to practice law in Nigeria in 1981, Uju has dedicated over 45 years to serving in high-level and sensitive positions within both federal and state public services of Nigeria. Her notable roles include:

  • Deputy Director Public Prosecution
  • Director of Legal Services at the Federal Ministry of Justice and the Federal Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Commerce
  • Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Federal Legal Aid Council (now Commission)
  • CEO of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission
  • Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Anambra State

Expertise and Contributions

Uju is a skilled legal draftsman and contract negotiator. She has held significant roles such as:

  • Co-Chair of the Committee on High Profile Federal Bills, contributing to the National Competition and Consumer Protection Bill and Policy (2014/15)
  • Chair of the Committee that drafted the Nigerian Local Content in the non-oil Sector Policy (2014)
  • Leader of the team that designed a model Investment Protection Agreement for the Nigerian Government (approved in 2014)
  • Leader of the team that developed a model draft Automotive Bill for the Nigerian Automotive Council (2013/2014)
  • Chair of the Federal Government’s Inter-Ministerial Committee with BRIPAN to finalize the draft Nigerian Insolvency Bill (2013)
  • Advisor on legal documentation for the establishment of the Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) with UNIDO
  • Co-Chair of the Committee that developed the Nigerian Industrial Development Plan (NIDP) draft Bill (2014)
  • Legal advisor for the Cotton, Textile, and Garment Agreement between the Federal Government and Vlisco Group
  • Lead negotiator for the Federal Government in the IPPA negotiations with Qatar, Canada, and Brazil (2012-2014)
  • Lead delegate of the Nigerian Preparatory Committee on Trade Facilitation to the WTO Legal Review in Geneva (2014)
  • Chair of the Inter-Ministerial Committee reviewing Pioneer Status Administration under NIPC (2014)

Professional Recognition and Board Membership

Uju served as a party-appointed arbitrator for the Kaduna State government (2017-2018) and has been an Independent Non-Executive Director on the United Bank for Africa Group Board since January 2020.

In recognition of her service and contributions, she received the National Productivity Order of Merit Award in 2001 and the National Honour, Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) in 2005.
